How to Clean Farm Fresh Eggs

Image of washing farm eggs. You have that dozen farm fresh eggs riding home with you, but are you asking yourself that ever important question – how do I clean these? It’s a fairly easy, but important process to remember. The first question you should ask yourself is whether the eggs were being kept at room temperature or refrigerated when you bought them. That will tell you which direction to go.

If the eggs were kept at room temperature, you can by all means keep them out on your counter. When you go to wash them, you’ll want to make sure the water is warm, not too hot or cold. If the water is drastically different than the temperature of the egg, this will cause the bacteria on the outside to actually be absorbed through the shell and inside the egg.

If the eggs were kept in the refrigerator, it’s important to keep them refrigerated after bringing them home. And when you wash them before use, make sure the water is also cold.

Basically, store and clean at the same temperature of the eggs. And enjoy!
